In this video, I’ll show you how to play YouTube videos in VLC media player.

Hi, my name is David, and if this is your first time watching my video tutorials and you get value from this, kindly consider subscribing.

VLC is a free and open source, cross platform multimedia player.

It is available for Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Unix, iOS, and Android. Therefore, this process will work on almost all the devices that i’ve mentioned.

I’m using this on Windows 10. Therefore, without further ado, let’s begin.

You need to download and install VLC if you want to follow along.

But for us to begin, let’s just open up VLC > VLC media player. And since it’s Christmas, we get the VLC icon and a hat.

The next thing that we need to do is we need to go to YouTube.

And once inside YouTube, you can either decide to copy this URL here, but I prefer to use the share button.

Click on that and click on copy.

And once you click on copy, let’s go back to VLC.

And once you’re inside VLC, just come to media, just click on Open Network stream. And just click on that.

And once you click on that, you’ll get this particular interface where you need to enter a network URL.

So the URL that we just copied – just right click inside and click on paste.

Now, once you paste your URL inside there, the only thing that you need to do is that you need to click on play.

Please remember that this is working when you have an active internet connection.

So let’s just click on play. It’s going to add the cache. And there we go.

“With the recent update on the YouTube interface, it’s now easier than before to download YouTube…”

So there we have it. Our video is playing inside VLC.

This is the same video that you see here.

But now what you’re going to be missing out on- maybe you might want that -is the adverts, and also the recommended videos.

Now, the reason why you may need to use VLC media player to play YouTube videos, is maybe you’re watching a documentary, or wildlife video or documentary of sorts, and you don’t want to be interrupted.

So that is one thing that you can leverage using VLC media player to play YouTube videos.

Now, the unfortunate thing is that if a video has subtitles and captions, for example, this video has about 12 subtitles and closed caption files.

It’s not possible to have these closed caption files inside the VLC stream.

So if yes, right click inside here, subtitle, they’re not available, and there’s no way to turn them on or off.

Therefore, you may need to download the subtitles to the video you want to watch beforehand.

And then add the subtitles to the particular stream as you watch it.

So that’s out of the way. That’s the only downside I find using VLC but if you want to watch a video, without interruption of ads and all that, then this is something that will work for you.

So that’s it for me. That’s how you can easily play YouTube videos inside VLC media player.
